***The Excellence in School Wellness Award recognizes the strides that schools are making in creating healthy school environments as a means to prevent childhood obesity and improve academic achievement.  Without an abundance of resources, many schools located in areas of the city with high rates of obesity are finding ways to foster healthier choices in their students’ daily life.  This award is a testament to those efforts.***

The Bronx ceremony will be hosted by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. on Wednesday June 23rd at 4:00 pm at The Bronx Museum of the Arts (1040 Grand Concourse).

The Northern Manhattan event will be hosted by Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer on Friday June 25th at 8:30 am at the New York Academy of Medicine (1216 Fifth Avenue).

CHALK was happy to be a part of the process!

Local teens create a Health/Fitness Guide for WaHI especially for teens, as reported in the Manhattan Times.

Though this list doesn't include every health and fitness resource in the neighborhood (like CHALK!) it does list some.  Good job to the students of Community Health Academy of the Heights for their efforts in increasing awareness of healthy resources in their neighborhood.

Humberto De Leon, owner of Bravo Supermarkets in Washington Heights, joined the network of community organizations and businesses that promote healthy lifestyles with the message “Vive tu Vida/Live your Life”. Putting “Action” behind his pledge, Humberto immediately began using the message by not only including it in Bravo’s weekly supermarket flyers- he also advertised June’s habit of the month (“Switch to low-fat (1% or less) milk, cheese and yogurt”), offered a discount on 1% milk and welcomed Vive tu Vida/Live your Life and CHALK to do low-fat dairy demonstrations at his supermarkets. The events and partnership were organized by Vive tu Vida/Live your Life member Rafael Gomez Luna of Venus Varieties.
