November 2011 Archives

Reminder that you can use a debit or a credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover)  as well as an EBT card at the farmer's market. Just drop by the information tent in front of the Hammer building steps and ask for the market manager or look for anyone with a shirt saying GrowNYC/EBT Coordinator.

This season at the market --

  • The return of our Green Bucks Coupons. These are great gifts/incentives to give people an extra hand (or nudge!) to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • A bigger market! The market is expanding by 3-4 farmers this year. Look out for more non-produce items like cut and potted flowers.
  • Live Entertainment. Musicians, art exibits and theater.
  • Health Outreach Services. Health screenings, health education, "Vive tu Vida/Live your Life" Habit of the Month activities.
  • Tasty cooking demonstrations with Greenmarket. Learn how to cook some yummy dishes with all that produce you bought. Get some solid nutrition advice from NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Dietitians.
  • Kid friendly activities. Story telling, coloring, food games... It's CHALK afterall, so it's gotta to be fun for the kiddies too.
